His head low and his tongue licking his lips. Good Boy! I said as I walked into the indoor arena, giving him a pat on his neck. With a little click of my tongue, Onatello was moving forward, toward the mounting block. I leisurely pushed the reins over his bay head and walked onto the mounting block then, putting my foot in the stirrup, swinging my body over the light brown leather saddle. A squeeze of my legs and Onatello was walking forward with his head up and alert. Ears flickering side to side listening to the calls of the mourning birds outside. Giggling alittle, I pushed him forward, sending him into a nice controlled working trot. Around and around we went until I felt we were warmed up. On ward! I gave Onatello his head and gave him a light tap with my heel, leaning forward. He snorted and relaxed into a canter. Twice around, Ho. I said sternly, pulling lightly on the reins. I halted, and dismounted and began to walk over to the middle of the arena where I was going to set a couple of jumps up.
A couple minutes later and I had fours jumps placed around the arena. Walking calming back to Onatello, picking a mint from my pocket and giving it to him. I gathered my reins and swung back on top of his powerful, but inexperienced body. I took a couple of deep breathes, being calm thoughts into my mind. Pushing him on, steering him towards a three and a half foot vertical. Counting my strides until we had left the ground. Landing on the other side almost perfectly, but I lost my balance, pulling on the reins too hard, forcing Onatello to pull the reins from my hands. Quickly, I grabbed a bit of his black mane and sternly yelled "HO!". After a few more strides, he had come to halt.
If only... She began to say something when she noticed that Onatello had his ears pined and his nostrils were flaring. They hadn't done much at all, why was he acting so weird? She loosened her reins and gave him a rub on the neck. You're ok Onatello. I said in a calm voice.
